Pictures and Sounds 2010

Pictures and Sounds, the annual multimedia showcase hosted by WHPK and the Film Studies Center, presents re-imagined and improvised soundtracks to new video work and classics of silent, experimental, and outsider film. Live performances from across the spectrum of Midwestern avant noise and free playing.

MIST (CLE, OH)
Devotional sequencers from Sam Goldberg and John Eliot of Wagon/Emeralds, score "Phantasy" and "La Poulette Grise" by Canadian experimental animator Norman McLaren.

DOG LADY (DET, MI)
Dense violin loops, the ground gives way before Mike Collino. Performing to CAST by Michigan-based artist/film-maker Alivia Zivich.

TRAUMA y NATE WOOLEY (DET, MI)
Pulled apart prescient free improv and youthful electronics from the new detroit vanguard and NJ-based heavy hitter Nate Wooley. Tease out the shadows of Robert Smithson's "Spiral Jetty."
